One expects that this is related both to Obama's belief that he can legislate justice and equity in a communistic fashion, and the fact that, if we are going to have universal heathcare, then there is a government interest in outlawing risky behaviors.
Does this respect the will of the people? not at all. But, then again, statism never had any respect for the will of the people.
I advise voting AGAINST Obama and the democrats in coming elections.
Well, to begin with, I don't agree that any "communistic fashion" is a bad thing.
But regardless.
I'm not actually upset about legislation forbidding flavored cigarettes (the legislation under which clove cigarettes fall). I understand why it was passed. Sure, it's a blanket legislation - plenty of smokers responsibly use flavored cigarettes - but if there are statistics on which to base banning flavored cigarettes to keep children from making peer-influenced, uninformed decisions, sure; go ahead. I think that might reflect the will of the people...
However, yes, I think these decisions should be reinforced by parents in the home: "No, Little Kenny Jr., just 'cause they taste like candy doesn't mean you won't get cancer if you smoke a pack a day." (And, OF COURSE, the will of the people can be better reflected if these "people" start enacting such in their own homes, then communities, then states...etc.)
And as for voting for Obama and the Democrats... If he is, or any o' them are, running against someone (on any portion of the ticket) who can't understand that proximity to a foreign country does not imply foreign policy, thinks the "Department of Law" exists, and routinely misunderstands the Constitution: I will again... IN A HEARTBEAT.
